Chapter Eleven
Bridget
October 15th
"Alright, you two, into the car!" Aunt Eve opens the door to a luxurious black vehicle parked in front of Daphne's house.
Daphne expertly transfers from her manual wheelchair into the plush leather seat with a grin. I follow suit, sliding into the car beside her. The scent of rich leather fills my nostrils as I take in the sleek interiorâthe polished wood, the gleaming metal accents, and the touch screen on the dashboard.
"Where are we going?" I ask Aunt Eve, but she just winks at me before closing the door behind us.
"Top secret," she replies, climbing into the driver's seat with a mischievous grin. "You'll see soon enough."
I raise an eyebrow but Aunt Eve just smirks.
"Any guesses?" I whisper to Daphne.
"None," she admits. "But knowing Eve, it's bound to be something fabulous."
"True," I say with a laugh before leaning toward Aunt Eve's seat. "Alright, I'm game."
"Spoken like a true adventurer!" Aunt Eve starts the car with a theatrical flourish and the engine purrs to life. Her eyes dance with excitement as she navigates the winding roads, but her lips remain sealed.
"Are you sure you won't give us even the tiniest hint?" I ask.
Aunt Eve chuckles but shakes her head, her dark curls bouncing.
"Absolutely not," she replies with a wink. "It's worth the wait, trust me."
As we continue to drive, my mind races. Could it be a sun-soaked beach? Or maybe a botanical garden? I get lost in a vision of us exchanging vows amid blooming flowers and a maze of greenery. The possibilities are endless.
We drive for what feels like an eternity, leaving behind the bustling streets of LA for a more serene landscape. The sun climbs higher in the sky, casting dappled golden light through the trees as they grow denser around us. We turn onto a scenic mountain road, and my breath catches at the breathtaking views.
"Wow," I whisper as I drink in the sight of rolling hills and valleys.
"See?" Aunt Eve's voice brims with satisfaction. "I told you it was worth the wait."
The car comes to a gentle stop, and Aunt Eve grins at us as she opens the door. "We're here."
Daphne and I exchange glances before she reaches down to release the wheelchair's brake. "Ready?" she asks, her hand resting lightly on mine.
"Ready."
Aunt Eve steps aside, and our jaws drop. Nestled among the towering trees and lush greenery is a magnificent mansion.
"Is this...?"
"Wow," I whisper, as my eyes roam over the grand facade of Tomas's mansion. The mansion seems almost like a dream, too beautiful to be real.
My mind drifts back to when we were just telenovela stars. His laughter could light up a room, and he always had my back. It feels like a lifetime ago.
"Can you believe this?" Daphne murmurs.
"I can't," I admit, a smile tugging at my lips. "It's absolutely incredible."
"Your Aunt Eve really knows how to keep a secret," Daphne teases, squeezing my hand gently. "I can't wait to see what's inside."
"Me either."
"Shall we?" Aunt Eve gestures toward the mansion. My heart beats wildly in my chest as we draw closer and mount the steps.
